Stepping out with Confidence.

You have 7 seconds to make a first impression!

When a person meets you, they look at your appearance, body language and your dress sense and instantly have an impression of you.

What does your appearance say?

A good impression can go a long way, but a bad one can be hard to overcome.

Clothing is one of the best ways to have a great impression.

When you walk into a room, how you present yourself and what you are wearing is the only thing people have to assess. Your clothes are a statement of your personality. Is what you are wearing telling the world who you are?

How do you want to be perceived? As a businesswoman, as a stay-at-home mom, as a retiree, or as someone who really doesn’t care or know?

When you know what your business is and what impression you want to give, along with knowing how to dress for your body type, you can make a difference in the first 7 seconds.

People need to know you . . . . so use those 7 seconds to make the impression that says – you WANT to know me!

Here are the Top 12 things I feel are important to a first impression for a woman:

  1. How do your clothes appear:
    1. Are they too tight?
    2. Are they making your body seem off balance – dressing for your body type is all about creating an illusion of the hourglass shape
    3. Are they too worn?
    4. Are they portraying the image you want – that you are a serious businesswoman and they want to work with you?
    5. Are you approachable – or do you look untouchable
    6. Does your outfit give you confidence so that you can only think about the other person and not whether your outfit is staying in place? (you know what I’m talking about)
  2. How do your shoes appear?
    1. Are they polished, or are they scuffed and muddy
    2. Are the heels taken care of, or are they all battered
    3. Do they fit? or are they so tight that it is all you can think of?
  3. How does your hair appear?
    1. Are your roots showing
    2. When was the last time you changed your style
    3. Does it need a trim
  4. How does your makeup appear?
    1. Is it too much?
    2. Is it too little?
  5. How is your body language?
    1. Do you walk in with your head held high and shoulders back?
  6. How is your handshake?
    1. Does it feel like a wet fish
    2. Did you squeeze their hand off
    3. Was it just enough to let them know you are serious businesswoman and know who you are?
  7. How is your eye contact?
    1. Do you look them in the eye (I recommend looking in the left eye) with a pleasant look on your face
  8. How is your tone of voice?
    1. Does your voice excuse confidence, or does it sound “wimpy”
  9. How are your attitude and demeanor?
    1. Are you pleasant – do you walk into the room with a pleasant look on your face or even a smile? A smile is a great way to attract someone to you.
  10. Are you on time?
    1. When you are late, it says I don’t value your time – not a good first impression.
  11. What is your level of confidence?
    1. One of my favorite things to do is to repeat to myself 3 to 4 times prior to walking in the room (making sure no one can see me) “I attract total success. Everyone wants to work with me” – it’s amazing how that boosts your confidence.
  12. Are you interested in the other person?
    1. “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” President Theodore Roosevelt. Take an interest in them – ask them about what they do before you share your business.
